Springtime Lawncare Tips for a Beautiful Lawn

It’s springtime – the best time of the year to enjoy a beautifully manicured and well-tended lawn. Spring cleaning doesn’t just apply to the inside of your house – it also applies to the care and upkeep of your lawn and property! Here are a few springtime lawncare tips to make the job easier and effective.

Your Soil’s Personality

Additives, fertilizers, and nutrients are far from “one size fits all!” To determine which ones you should use, start with a simple pH soil test. Knowing the pH levels in your soil will help you treat it with exactly what it needs.

Spring Tips

Once you’ve completed a soil test and you know what kind of diet your lawn needs for healthy and vibrant growth, decide whether to use liquid or granular fertilizer – and learn how frequently application is needed. The growing vs. dormancy seasons have different needs, so springtime will require different application intervals than during the winter. You don’t want to starve or overfeed your lawn and garden!

Those Pesky Weeds

Nobody cares for weeds, but please remember that some weeds provides early-in-the-season food that bees and butterflies depend on. If you’re bent on eradicating weeds, a pre-emergent product is the way to go (it kills them before they sprout), but if you can get by a little longer by allowing them to benefit our fluttering friends and buzzing business partners, try to do so.

Spring Tips

Stay Hydrated

Timing is everything when it comes to watering your lawn. Early morning watering schedules give your lawn the advantage of soaking in much-needed moisture and lets the excess evaporate. In contrast, a midday watering – when the sun is high in the sky – can basically cook and blister the foliage you’re trying to nurture.

Spring Tips

Don’t Over-Mow

We have every appreciation for how relaxing mowing can be, but if you mow too much, it can damage your lawn (if the grass is turning a yellow-brown, it’s begging you to lay off the blades). A good rule of thumb is to never trim more than 1/3 of your grass height. If you really can’t resist the dopamine hit of a good mowing session, hop on the mower, raise the blades, and ride around for a bit.

Regular Equipment Service

You might think this goes without saying, but keeping your new or used mower in good condition helps keep your lawn in good condition, too! Fuel and oil leaks damage your lawn and soil. Our equipment service department can help keep your lawncare equipment in pristine and lasting condition. Contact us today to schedule an appointment!
