ATV Maintenance Tips: 5 Things to Check

Regular equipment maintenance is essential for keeping your gear in good condition and ready to tackle any job you throw at it. Check out our ATV maintenance tips below to get started on routine upkeep – including jobs you may have overlooked or let go overdue on your new or used ATV.

ATV Maintenance Tips

Check & Replace Oil

Check and replace your ATV’s oil regularly – a good place to start on how frequently is by checking your owner’s manual for the recommended frequency, quantity, and recommended type. ATVs may consume less fuel than other vehicles, but still need regular oil checks and changes. Take care of this task regularly to keep your ATV in prime running condition.

Check the Tires

Stay on top of checking the tire pressure. Always use a pressure gauge in order to check it and get an accurate reading, and add air whenever needed. If you have a portable air pump, keep it with you so you can inflate on the go if needed.

Check the Handles

Another part that can loosen through normal wear and tear are the handlebars, but having a good and stable grip will help you stay in control of the ATV while you’re driving – and that results in a safer experience. If you notice your grips seem to be loosening or slipping, reglue them. Ask our service and parts department for our recommendation on reglueing!

Check the Nuts & Bolts

Normal use/wear and tear can cause the nuts and bolts on your ATV to loosen over time. If you’re hauling your ATV anywhere, normal transportation can also jostle them – and other ATV parts can suffer as a result. Save yourself hassle down the road (or path, or trail) and check the nuts and bolts every time you head out – and keep a wrench handy for tightening them up.

Check Air Filter

There’s no set rule on this one, because the air filter is affected by different conditions. Again, check that owner’s manual for frequency recommendations. One general rule of thumb is every 50 hours of use, but depending on how sandy (or muddy) your terrain is, it may require more frequent checks and replacements.
