There’s nothing like using your new or used tractor in the fall for the jobs you have around your property. Even though autumn weather around here still tends to be warm, the stifling nature of summer air seems to lessen, and fall brings with it smells and flavors of the season. Check out our tractor maintenance tips below to keep your equipment in good condition year round!
Keep It Clean
Okay, okay, this one isn’t a joke. You use your tractor for dirty jobs, but that doesn’t mean it has to stay dirty in between them! Keeping your tractor relatively clean increases efficiency and protects it from weather-related damage. Clean air filters and tires regularly, and hose off mud and other debris so it doesn’t clog moving parts.
Prevent Rust
Catching rust in its early stages can prevent corrosion. And that’s essential if you want to extend the life of your tractor. We recommend keeping rust prevention coating and using it according to the manufacturer’s directions in order to prevent rust and its ensuing corrosion.
Change the Air Filters
Dirty air filters can run your tractor into the ground. Kicking up dust while you work is natural, but breathing it isn’t good for anyone – humans or equipment. A good rule of thumb is to check your tractor’s air filter every 50 hours and clean/replace it as necessary. And while you’re at it, clean the dust from engine fan blades.
Keep Track of Your Maintenance
The easiest way to lapse on tractor maintenance is to not remember the last time you did something. Keep a service record/maintenance log of everything you do (or have done) to your tractor in terms of maintenance so you always know when the last time you changed the oil, replaced a filter, or anything else…and that way you know when to check those things next.
Regular Service
Keeping your tractor regularly serviced is one way to not only extend its longevity but also respond to potential issues early and effectively. Prevention is always less expensive than fixing a break! Our equipment service department can offer oil change, lubrication of internal parts, tire replacement, fluid checks, and more.
