Are you new to gardening? It can be easy to overestimate the time, effort, and expense of growing and maintaining a garden, especially if you’re a beginner. Check out some of our gardening tips below!
Grow Food, Not Flowers
There are lots of edible flowers out there, but why not use your gardening space to grow food instead of only ornamental plants? There are plenty of drought-resistant and heat-hardy plants that can thrive in the Texas weather. Ask your local nursery for recommendations on replacing ornamentals with plants that are both pretty and functional – like lavender!
Consider Container Gardening
Even plants that need loads of sunshine might benefit from shadier areas during days of intense heat and drought. Container gardening is a method that allows you to keep groupings of plants in containers and move them as needed for sun exposure (or lack thereof). It also helps you make efficient use of the space you have. Plus, in the rare (but not impossible) event of a cold snap, you can bring your precious plants inside so they don’t catch a chill. Herbs are excellent plans for container gardening and easily repositionable based on the size of the container.
