Keeping your lawncare equipment in good condition and excellent working order is essential for maximizing its lifespan! Take a look at some of our mower service tips below to get a good idea of what mower maintenance tasks are needed.
Make Friends with Manual
Ultimately, your owner’s manual is going to be a wealth of information on general care and upkeep of your mower. Familiarize yourself with it. By being familiar with the specific care your mower needs, you can prevent damage and untimely wear and tear.
Routine Care
Make sure to take care of the following routine mower maintenance tasks:
- Check the flywheel at the beginning and end of the season
- Change engine oil every 25 hours of use or at least twice a season
- Replace/clean air filter
- Sharpen and balance mower blades
- Add fuel stabilizer
- If you won’t be using the mower for at least 30 days, remove all the fuel (this is an end of season task)
- Check spark plugs every 2 months during regular mowing season and replace when necessary
- Keep the mower clean. Clean the deck at least once a month. Sweep or hose off dirt/mud clods, grass clippings, and other debris like twigs and leaves. A build up of yard debris on and under the deck can lead to an imbalance of the blades.
- Fog the engine
